Toronto Homicide 14 & 15 – Benedict Johnson Kongolo, charged following the murder of John Ngoyi Kongolo (Father) and Denzel Didier Kongolo (Son,) in a daytime downtown shooting

Toronto police were called to the report of a shooting in the area of Dundas Street E. and Parliament Street on March 12th at approximately 1:30pm.

On arrival police and paramedics located a man who was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries. A woman was also injured and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two Police officers were injured during a foot pursuit and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The deceased have been identified as (John) Ngoyi Kongolo and (Denzel) Didier Kongolo.

Investigators said a suspect had been taken into custody and the firearm was recovered at the scene.

Benedict Johnson Kongolo, 23, of Toronto, has been charged with:

  1. two counts of First Degree Murder

According to reports, Kongolo is a rap artist and goes by street name is “JoEazy.” The victims are said to be his brother, father, and the injured woman his mother.

He was scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 10 a.m., in room 106.
