On July 27, 2025, Kingston Police’s Major Crime Unit launched an investigation into a suspicious death in the 1400 block of Albany Drive in the city’s west end. The investigation was supported by the Patrol Division, Forensic Identification Section, the Office of the Chief Coroner, and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

On July 29, 2025, police arrested 22-year-old Thi My Nguyen, who was initially charged with improperly interfering with a dead body. She appeared in bail court on July 30 and was held in custody.

Following further investigation, Nguyen has now been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a newborn child. Police noted that no earlier public release was made, as the incident did not pose a risk to public safety.
