Saskatchewan RCMP Homicide Unit Investigates Suspicious Death on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation

Saskatchewan 2026 Homicide Victim List

On July 26, 2026, at approximately 7:40 a.m., members of the Ahtahkakoop RCMP responded to a report of a residential fire on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation.

Following the fire, a search of the residence was conducted, during which a fire scene investigator discovered human remains.

Further investigation, conducted in partnership with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, has determined that the circumstances surrounding the death are considered suspicious. Investigators continue to work with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service to establish the identity of the deceased.

The Saskatchewan RCMP’s Historical Investigations Unit (HIU) has now taken carriage of the investigation. The HIU, which operates within the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Branch, is responsible for investigating homicides, suspicious deaths, missing-person cases where foul play is suspected or likely, and other investigations as assigned.
