Background: Sarnia Police Service responded to a sudden death in 700 block of Indian Road on August 9th, 2017. At the scene, police found a 38 year old male in medical distress. He was pronounced dead at the hospital due to an overdose on drugs.

On August 11, 2017, police searched the home in the 800 block of Devine Street in relation to the death. A  small quantity of crack cocaine was found in the home and Karen Ebel-Savage, 57, was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a controlled substance.

On March 13th 2018 Sarnia police said further evidence was collected since the death, and Karen Ebel-Savage has since been charged with Manslaughter.
