RCMP Major Crimes unit investigates the suspicious death of a 21-month old boy in Canora

RCMP were called to a residence on the 200 block of Northern Ave. just after 1:00am, on November 21st on the report of an infant in need of medical attention.

Despite life saving efforts by police and EMS the 21-month-oldd boy was reported deceased at the scene.

Police said,  based on the injuries sustained by the infant, The Major Crimes Unit has taken over the case. The cause of death has not been released by RCMP at this time.

Update February 23rd, 2021
Police have identified the victim as 21-month-old Lorenzo Cote from the Cote First Nation in Kamsack, Saskatchewan. 

Update March 15th
23-year-old Waylon Hilliard Severight was arrested by Yorkton RCMP and RCMP Major Crimes Unit South on March 12 on Cote First Nation, and has been charged with second-degree murder. Both the victim and the accused are from the First Nation near Kamsack.
