Court Delivers Manslaughter Verdict in Sam Graham’s 2020 Death, Judge Says Killing Was Not Premeditated

Sault Ste. Marie Police responded to the report of an altercation at a home on Muriel Drive, on November 12th at approximately 4:30pm.

Police arrived to find Sam Graham suffering from stab wounds. The victim was rushed to hospital where they died of their injuries.

Montana Lewis, 18, has been charged with first-degree murder. Lincoln Louttit, Sault police spokesperson said further details into the investigation will not be released, due to a publication ban being ordered on the case.

Update January 30th 2026:
Lewis was found guilty of manslaughter, not first-degree murder, in the death of 19-year-old Sam Graham. Justice Alexander Kurke ruled that Lewis did not plan or intend to kill Graham, but acted out of anger following an earlier confrontation involving crude remarks toward his sister. The judge rejected claims of self-defence or reflex, finding that Lewis stabbed Graham out of vengeance. Graham, who was unarmed, suffered a fatal wound to his aorta.
