The 2023 Surrey Homicide victim list is available here

Surrey RCMP were called to the report of a shooting at Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara at 7050 120 Street, Surrey on June 18th at approximately 8:30 p.m.

On arrival police located an adult male found inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim has been identified as 45-year old Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

IHIT investigators learned that two suspects, described as heavier-set males, wearing face coverings, fled the scene on foot, southbound on 122 Street through Cougar Creek Park. Investigators believe the suspects may have had a vehicle waiting for them, in the area of 121 Street and 68 Avenue. It is believed the suspects and the vehicle may have been in that area in the hour preceding the homicide.

Sgt. Timothy Pierotti of IHIT said “We believe that not only may the occupants of these vehicles have been witnesses to the homicide of Mr. Nijjar, but the vehicle itself may have recorded critical evidence that could help advance our investigation. There have been rumors circulating indicating two men were arrested in relation to this murder. I can confirm that at this time, no arrests have been.”

Update August 27th
Investigators now believe they have identified the vehicle which was waiting for the suspects in the area of 121 Street and 68 Avenue. The vehicle is described as a Silver 2008 Toyota Camry.

Update: On the morning of May 3, 2024, IHIT investigators, with the assistance of members from the BC and Alberta RCMP and the Edmonton Police Service, arrested three men for the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

The following three individuals have now been charged with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in relation to the homicide: 22-year-old Karan Brar of Edmonton; 22-year-old Kamalpreet Singh of Edmonton; and 28-year-old Karanpreet Singh of Edmonton.

IHIT is also releasing video of a Toyota Corolla, believed to have been used by the suspects in the time leading up to the homicide, in and around the Surrey area.

Today’s charges are the result of 10 months of dedication from the IHIT investigators and it’s many partners across Canada including both RCMP and municipal police services, says Superintendent Mandeep Mooker, Officer in Charge of IHIT. The investigation does not end here. We are aware that there are others out there that played a role in this homicide and we remain dedicated to identifying and arresting each one of them.

Update: The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said in a release on May 11th that 22-year-old Amandeep Singh was already in the custody of Peel Regional Police in Ontario for unrelated firearms charges.

“IHIT pursued the evidence and gained sufficient information for the BC Prosecution Service to charge Amandeep Singh with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder,” the police statement said.
