The Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit has laid charges in connection with the death of Rachelle Desrochers, a 54-year-old woman from Ottawa who had been reported missing.

Joshua Blair, a 35-year-old Ottawa resident, has been charged with second-degree murder and committing an indignity to a human body.

Authorities have classified this case as a femicide.

Blair made a court appearance earlier today.

Although Rachelle Desrochers’ remains have not been found, police believe she was killed and suspect her body may be in a local landfill, where a search is currently underway. She was last seen on March 14 near the McDonald’s on Elgin Street.
