Update February 7th 2022
OPP announced that the victim has been identified as Paul Pender, 54, a well-known winemaker at Tawse Winery.
Haldimand County Ontario Provincial Police have charged 31-year-old Bradley House, of Hamilton, with second-degree murder in relation to the homicide.
According to TheSpec.com, Pender was a Good Samaritan, and that’s what led to his death. They said an intruder who was in distress arrived at a cottage and when Pender tried to help when the situation escalated, leading to Pender being killed on a neighbour’s driveway.
Update January 3rd 2023
Bradley House who had pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, has been found not criminally responsible for his actions. Superior Court Judge Michael Bordin said there was substantial evidence indicating that an underlying mental disorder caused Bradley House to stab Pender.
House will be remanded to a psychiatric hospital in Hamilton and referred to the Ontario Review Board for regular evaluation.
