Chilliwack RCMP responded to a 9-1-1 call from a residence in the 46600-block of Teton Avenue in Chilliwack, BC on January 17, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.

On arrival police located a 66-year-old female deceased and a 37-year-old man suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

“Initial evidence indicates this was an isolated incident between three family members, with no ongoing risk to the public,” said Sgt. Timothy Pierotti. “At this time, IHIT is not releasing the name of the victim out of respect for the family’s privacy. Additionally, in consideration of the evidence collected, it is not believed that the release of the victim’s name at this stage would further the investigation in anyway.” 

A 68-year old man was located at the residence and was arrested without incident for murder.

Update August 6th: The B.C. Supreme Court has determined that a man from Chilliwack, B.C., who fatally stabbed his wife was experiencing a “delusional belief” at the time of the incident and has been found not criminally responsible for the killing.

According to a court decision released, the 70-year-old man believed he was protecting his wife from individuals he thought were planning to torture or assault her.

Neither the man nor his wife can be named due to a publication ban issued by the court.
