Niagara Police Homicide Unit investigating the death of a 58-year-old cab driver in St. Catharines

Niagara Regional Police Service responded to an assist ambulance call on Eastchester Avenue near Lorne Street in St. Catharines on September 23rd at approximately 4:43am.

Police said the taxi driver was located on the ground beside his parked taxi, with the door opened in the roadway.  The driver was unconscious suffering from a critical injury. He was rushed to hospital where he died of his injury.

Media Relations said “This is an active and ongoing investigation to determine the circumstances around this incident. It does not appear that this was a robbery or a targeted incident. Prior to the time the cab was located by a passerby the driver was considered status “available”, with no paying passenger. “
