Neguac RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance at a home on Algonquin Road in Esgenoôpetitj First Nation on June 2nd.
Police arrived to find 36-year-old Joshua Ian Robichaud, from Esgenoôpetitj First Nation suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was transported to hospital where he died of his injuries on June 12th. RCMP said an autopsy was completed to help determine the man’s exact cause of death, and the police investigation has now determined that the man’s death was a result of a homicide.
Originally police arrested Dylan Dedam, from Esgenoôpetitj First Nation, and charged him with possession of a prohibited weapon. Police have not said if his charges will be updated. He remains in custody.
Update December 14th
On December 13, Dylan Dedam, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on August 8, 2023.
Update: On November 22, 2023, Dylan Dedam appeared in Miramichi Provincial Court, and was sentenced to a total of ten years in prison. Upon his release, he will be prohibited from owning weapons for life.
