When Sabrina Khudayer, 28, died on July 24, 2020, police initially treated the case as one of criminal negligence. However, as investigators looked more closely, evidence suggested she may have been abandoned and left to die.

Mouhammad Mounkaila, now 30, has been charged with manslaughter in connection with her death. The case is scheduled to return to court in January.

Montreal police are counting this homicide as the 13th in 2026.
