Leona Blacksmith charged with murder in fatal Cross Lake house fire

Cross Lake RCMP witnessed smoke coming from a residence in the community on August 9th at approximately 3:30am. Police were unable to gain entry through the front door due to heavy smoke, however, officers broke multiple windows to help clear the smoke.

As the smoke cleared police found a 93-year-old woman on the floor of the home. The victim was rushed to hospital where she died of her injuries. 

On August 11th 38-year-old Leona Blacksmith, from Cross Lake, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder. Police have not released the relationship between the victim and the accused.
