Kamloops RCMP officers responded to a call about an injured man in the 700-block of Notre Dame back on September 27, 2025.
When they arrived, they found 39-year-old Kamloops resident Jason Pinette with severe injuries. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Police launched an investigation, and with the help of multiple units, they were able to identify and locate a suspect.
Sadly, Jason Pinette later died from his injuries. On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, Justin Hopkin-Jones was formally charged with second-degree murder. He remains in custody.
“This investigation was well supported from the initial call, which started with our frontline officers, Forensic Identification Services, General Investigation Services Team, and the Serious Crime Unit,” said Superintendent Jeff Pelley Officer in Charge of the Kamloops RCMP Detachment. “Our team has worked diligently over the course of this investigation to gather evidence and follow-up on investigative material.”
“As this matter is now before the courts, we can not speak to the details, however, I want to acknowledge the swift and coordinated team effort to advance this investigation, securing charge approval,” said Superintendent Pelley. “The Kamloops RCMP Detachment offers our condolences to the family and friends of Jason.”
