Update: Daqronn Lamar Beals Charged with First-Degree Murder in the 2025 Fatal Shooting of Jayden Tynes in North Preston NS

The RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit is investigating a homicide that occurred in North Preston on November 2. Around 4:58 p.m., police and paramedics responded to reports of gunfire near Cain Street and Clarence Street.

When officers arrived, they found 28-year-old Jayden Tynes suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital but later died from his injuries.

Update: Investigators with the RCMP/HRP Integrated Major Crime Unit have charged a 29-year-old Cole Harbour man in connection with the homicide of Jayden. On July 22, 2026, police arrested Daqronn Lamar Beals and charged him with first-degree murder.

Beals was remanded into custody following his arrest and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court.

Police say the arrest represents a major milestone in the investigation. Sgt. Shawn Stanton of the RCMP/HRP Integrated Homicide Unit said investigators hope the development provides some comfort to Jayden’s family as they continue to cope with their loss. He added that the investigation remains active, and detectives are still asking anyone with information about the circumstances surrounding the homicide to come forward.
