Police responded to call of welfare after family members were unable to reach Irene Carter 78. Police arrived to Carter’s home in Lethbridge around 2 p.m. on January 17th and found Cater dead. Autopsy revealed the cause of death was a combination of blunt force injuries and stab wounds to the chest. Carter had been stabbed 13 times.

Update June 14th
On April 7, 2017, Lisa Freihaut, 52, the daughter of Carter, addressed the media to ask for help from the public in catching her mothers killer. Freihaut expressed her gratitude for the support the family received during the search for Carter’s killer.
On June 11th, 2018, Lisa Freihaut pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in her mother’s killing. She has been sentenced to life without parole for a minimum 11 years.
