Howard Gordon Hunter Identified as Victim in Calgary’s 12th Homicide; Danny James Turkitch Charged with Manslaughter

Calgary police are investigating a fatal incident that occurred in Tomkins Park over the weekend.

At approximately 5:05 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026, officers responded to reports of an assault in the park, located in the 800 block of 17 Avenue S.W. When police arrived, they found a man suffering from serious medical distress. Despite efforts by first responders to save his life, he was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man was arrested in connection with the incident.

Police have since charged 68-year-old Danny James Turkitch with manslaughter. He is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

Following an autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Monday, June 22, 2026, the victim was identified as 67-year-old Howard Gordon Hunter.
