Update: Three arrests made – Hamilton police investigate the murder of Robert Barberstock, the city’s first homicide of 2023

Hamilton police were announced on March 24th that they were called to the area of Sanford ave North, and Acorn street at around 4:00pm on the report of a shooting.

On arrival police located a 53-year-old man suffering from gunshot injuries, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim has been identified as Robert Barberstock.

Update March 27th
Investigators learned that a suspect involved in the shooting of Robert Barberstock also sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m. on March 24th, Hamilton Police and emergency services attended the Red Rose Motel located at 553 Queenston Road, on the report of a man with life threatening leg injury. Investigation revealed that the injury to the leg did not occur at the motel. 

Hamilton Police have arrested, Luke Willems, a 38-year-old man of Hamilton for First Degree Murder charges.

On June 1, Joseph McGrath, 32, was arrested in connection with the investigation. He has been charged with robbery with a firearm.

On September 5, 2023, investigators arrested Justin Barberstock for Manslaughter in connection to this murder. Investigators believe there to be one remaining suspect in the murder.
