Hamilton police responded to report of gunshots at a seven-bedroom rooming house located at 21 Harvey Street, on January 29th at approximately 11:30pm.
Police and paramedics arrived to find a 46-year-old David Stevens suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries. Police are not releasing the victim’s identity pending next of kin notification.
Police believe there were three male suspects who attended the residence in a four-door, silver colored sedan. Investigators are in the process of collecting video in hopes to obtain a more detailed description of the suspects.
March 6, a 19-year-old male from Hamilton was arrested for the murder of David Stevens. He was released unconditionally after being interviewed by police. He remains a suspect in the investigation.
April 30, Major Crime investigators interviewed a 20-year-old man from Hamilton. He is believed to be the third person who entered the Harvey Street residence. This individual was informed of his status in the case.
Update June 3rd
Investigators have charged 23-year-old Shajjad Idrish of Stoney Creek with First Degree murder in the killing of David Stevens. Police said Shajjad Idrish was arrested by Brantford Police Service back on February 14, 2020, for the murder of Jason Kossatz, and the Attempted Murder of two other persons that occurred on February 8, 2020, at the Galaxy Motel on Colborne Street in Brantford. Idrish has remained in custody since his arrest in Brantford in February.
