On Aug. 11, 2023, Edmonton police responded to multiple reports of a weapons complaint in the Eastwood Park neighborhood in the area of 85 Street and 119 Avenue. 

On arrival police located a man in his 30s at the park in life-threatening condition. Paramedics treated and transported the victim to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. 

On Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2023, an autopsy completed by the Edmonton Medical Examiner determined that Travis Cardinal, 33, died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. The manner of death is homicide.

On Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024, Paul Everette Lawrence, 36, was charged with first-degree murder in connection to Cardinal’s death. In addition, Talsa Ashlee Cardinal, 30, has also been charged with first degree murder for her role in the incident.
