Edmonton Homicide Section has laid charges in the death of a child

Edmonton police responded to a residence in the area of 130 Avenue and 105 Street on the report of an 18-month-old female in medical distress on August 15th at approximately 12:00 p.m.

Paramedics declared the child deceased on scene.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner completed an autopsy Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023, and said further testing was required to establish the child’s cause and manner of death. Medical Examiner’s Office until ordered a toxicology test.

On September 27, 2023, a 27-year-old woman was charged with manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death. The EPS will not be releasing the name of the accused to protect the privacy of other children in the family.
