Thunder Bay Police were called to the 200 block of May Street North at about 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31 following reports of an assault that had recently taken place.
Paramedics located Alan Cory ESQUEGA, 34, of Thunder Bay, suffering from serious injuries. The victim was taken to hospital for evaluation and treatment of his injuries.
According to reports, Esquega was a High-Risk Sex Offender who was convicted of raping an 87-year-old woman in 2007.
On June 2nd police arrested Raejon Raheem JOHNSON, 22, of Toronto, and charged him with Aggravated Assault. He was later released by authorities with conditions and a future appearance date for the charge of Aggravated Assault.
Police were alerted on June 12th that Esquega died of his injuries related to the Aggravated Assault.
Thunder Bay Police re-arrested Johnson in Brantford, Ont, were he had been living with his mother. He will be returned to Thunder Bay on a charge of Second-Degree Murder.
