Calgary Police officer Sgt. Andrew Harnett killed in the line of duty – Two teens arrested

Calgary Police officer Sgt. Andrew Harnett conducted a traffic stop in the area of Falconridge Boulevard and Falconridge Drive N.E at approximately 10:50pm on December 31st. According to CPS during the traffic stop, the vehicle fled, striking the officer in the process.

Harnett was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced deceased shortly before midnight.

Police said the two individuals wanted on warrants for first-degree murder, Amir ABDULRAHMAN, 19, and a 17-year-old male, both from Calgary, turned themselves into police on January 1st 2021.

Update: The second accused has been identified as Al Azan Shah Muhammad. He was sentenced as an adult to 12 years in prison.

Police said the investigation is still in its early stages, no new information will be released at this time.
