Update: Calgary police investigate the fatal early morning shooting of a man

Calgary police were called for reports of shots fired at the intersection of 16 Avenue N.W. and 4 Street N.W. on March 21st just after midnight.

Police and paramedics arrived to find one man deceased in the front driver’s side of a 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche.

According to Calgary police “Witnesses reported that the victim was stopped at the red light in his vehicle when an unknown vehicle pulled up behind the victim’s truck, exited the vehicle, and fired several rounds of gunfire before fleeing east on 16 Avenue N.W.”

The shooting is believed to be targetted. Staff Sergeant Sean Gregson of the CPS Homicide Unit said “While we are still relatively early in the investigation, we are dedicating a number of resources to suppress further violence and hold those responsible accountable.”

Update March 24th
 The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Ali AL-AQAL
