Update:Investigators with IHIT carefully reviewed evidence from the crime scene and forensic analysis to reconstruct what happened in the stabbing.

As a result of the investigation, prosecutors approved a manslaughter charge on June 6, 2026, against 36-year-old Jesse Chamberlain-Lohr of Abbotsford in connection with the death of Harvey James Lee-Bernick. Chamberlain-Lohr remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 15, 2026.

Police believe the incident was targeted and involved people who knew each other, indicating that it was not a random attack and that there is no continuing threat to the public.

According to Sgt. Freda Fong, investigators worked extensively to clarify the involvement of several individuals identified early in the case. She noted that the charge marks an important milestone in the investigation and expressed sympathy for Lee-Bernick’s family as the legal process moves forward.
