A woman and her 11-year-old child were fatally stabbed outside Crawford Plains School in Edmonton

Edmonton police responded to a weapons complaint outside of Crawford Plains School in the area of 42 Street and 12 Avenue, where an unknown male attacked and stabbed two people before fleeing the area on foot on May 5th at approximately 4:52 p.m.

Police arrived to find a deceased 35-year-old woman and an injured 11-year-old child. Officers began life-saving efforts on the child, who was then rushed to hospital by EMS, where they succumbed to their injuries.

The suspect was located by two other responding officers in the area of 46 Street and 12 Avenue. An altercation occurred, and both officers discharged their firearms, striking the suspect. The suspect sustained critical injuries and was treated and transported to hospital by paramedics where he remains.

Police said the victims were Mother and child, however they said it is unclear if the suspect was known to them.

The victims have been identified as Carolann Robillard and Sara Miller, who had started using the first name Jayden.
