On August 7, 2025, Port Alberni RCMP arrested a suspect in relation to a fatal incident that took place at Dry Creek Park on June 16, 2025. The next day, the BC Prosecution Service approved a murder charge against William Shane Watts, who is currently in custody.

The investigation is being led by the Port Alberni RCMP General Investigation Section, which continues to gather information and is asking anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward.
