Teen Charged After Fatal Assault in Opaskwayak Cree Nation

Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) responded to a report of an assault at a home in Opaskwayak Cree Nation on November 1, 2025, at about 2:25 p.m.

When officers and emergency medical services arrived, they found a 15-year-old girl with serious injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The RCMP Major Crime Services has since taken over the case, treating the death as a homicide.

Following the investigation, on November 4, 2025, police arrested a 17-year-old girl from the same community. She has been charged with manslaughter and remains in custody.

The investigation is ongoing with assistance from the Manitoba First Nations Police Service, RCMP Major Crime Services, and The Pas RCMP Forensic Identification Services.
