Richibucto RCMP responded to a report of shots fired at a residence on Route 117, in Pointe-Sapin on April 13, 2024, at approximately 2:04 p.m.

On arrival police located a 52-year-old man deceased. His identity has not been released.

70-year-old Alphonse Daigle was quickly located and detained with the assistance of a Peace Officer from Parks Canada. He has been charged with first-degree murder.

On March 25, 2026, Alphonse Daigle appeared in the Court of King’s Bench in Moncton, where he pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder in connection with the death of André Després. The charge stems from a homicide that took place on April 13, 2024, in Pointe-Sapin, New Brunswick. Following his plea, he was taken into custody and is set to return to court for sentencing on May 20, 2026.

Update May 19th 2026: Alphonse Daigle, 72, of Pointe-Sapin, New Brunswick, has been sentenced to life in prison with no eligibility for parole for 25 years after being found guilty of first-degree murder.
