55-year-old man fatally shot in Montreal’s 18th homicide of the year

Montreal police responded to a shooting at an apartment building on Airlie Street in the city’s LaSalle borough on July 10th.

55-year-old Paul Payne was rushed to hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper body, where he died of his injuries.

According to the Montreal Gazette “Payne had a criminal record, and in 2023 charges alleging he was involved in a conspiracy to commit armed robbery were withdrawn. In 1993, Payne was convicted of manslaughter. He killed his girlfriend’s two-year-old boy by punching him several times in the abdomen. The assault left 23 bruises on the boy.”

Police say no arrests have yet been made.
