Updated: 7 teens charged – 16-year-old boy dead following an assault outside of McNally High School in Edmonton

Edmonton police and paramedics responded to the report of an assault outside of McNally High School on April 8th at approximately 2:44pm.

on arrival police and EMS located 16-year-old Karanveer Sahota, suffering from life-threatening injuries. Police, Fire Rescue and EMS provided first aid on scene, and paramedics treated and transported the youth to hospital where he died of his injuries on April 15th.

Investigators said a number of youth suspects have been identified and more information will be forthcoming.

Update, on April 21st a 17-year-old female and two males aged 15 and 16, were charged with second-degree murder. Two 14-year-old males and two males aged 15 and 16, were formally charged with second-degree murder today, Friday, April 22, 2022. The female youth is also facing a charge of obstruction.

Police said the victim and suspects were known to each other and it is believed that this incident was an escalation of violence between two rival groups.

Update
The charges against six teens were downgraded from murder to manslaughter. A 14-year-old boy, is still accused of second-degree murder.
