Montreal police responded to report of a shooting in Saint-Leonard on February 7th at approximately 6:00pm.

Police arrived to the area of Jean-Talon Street, near Valdombre Street to find 15-year-old Meriem Boundaoui suffering from a gunshot wound inside of a vehicle. She was rushed to hospital where she died of her injuries on February 8th. Police said a 21-year-old man, was also shot but expected to survive.

It is alleged that the girl and the driver were talking to three people standing on the sidewalk when another car pulled up and opened fire. Montreal police spokesman Raphael Bergeron said both suspects were wearing face masks, making their identification difficult.

On March 27th 2026: A jury has found 29-year-old Salim Touaibi guilty of first-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder in the 2021 shooting death of 15-year-old Meriem Boundaoui in Montreal. He will automatically serve life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years. His co-accused, Aymane Bouadi, was acquitted of all charges and released.

On April 16th Salim Touaibi was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years.

In his ruling, Judge Poulin highlighted the devastating impact of the crime, acknowledging the victim’s family for their resilience while describing the profound loss and lasting void left by the young girl’s death. He also underlined the suffering of a second victim, who survived being shot but now lives with chronic pain, mental health challenges, and a dramatically altered life after losing the ability to play sports.

According to CTV News, the judge pointed to several aggravating factors in sentencing Touaibi, including his prior criminal record, the number of victims, the public setting of the shooting, and the fact that he fired repeatedly until his weapon was empty while on parole. Rejecting the accused’s claims of accountability, the court noted that although Touaibi said he did not intend to kill the young girl, he admitted he intended to kill someone during the assault. He was ultimately given the maximum sentence for murder, along with four concurrent sentences for attempted murder.
