Update Arrest made – Police say there are over 90 persons of interest in the death of 13 year old girl

On July 18th at approximately 1 am Burnaby RCMP responded to report of a missing 13-year-old girl who had not been heard from since 5:00 pm on the 17th.

The girlMarrisa Shen was found by investigators in some brush on the southeast side of Central Park in Burnaby early Wednesday, July 18th.

Police said the circumstances surrounding the death are suspicious and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken lead in the investigation. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

Update August 24th
Police said that they have more than 90 persons of interest involving the homicide investigation of Marissa Shen and are following up on nearly 200 tips.

Update September 10th 2018
On September 7, 2018, Police arrested Ibrahim Ali, 28, without incident in Burnaby.  Ali has been charged with First-Degree-Murder in relation to Marrisa’s death. Police believe the homicide was a random act, and that the victim and accused were not known to each-other.

Update December 2023
Ibrahim Ali, who pleaded not guilty when the extensive trial began in April, has been found guilty by a Supreme Court jury.
