Winnipeg police investigate the fatal shooting of Deena Anne Markwick

Central District General Patrol officers, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, responded to the report of a shooting on Young Street between Sargent and Ellice avenues on August 16th at approximately 2:00am.

Police located 45-year-old Deena Anne Markwick lying outside, suffering from a serious gunshot wound. She was rushed to hospital where she died of her injuries.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 204-986-6508.

Update:
Winnipeg police have issued a Canada Wide Warrant for the arrest of Laura Fay Buboire, 30, of Winnipeg, who is wanted for Second Degree Murder. Police said Buboire is wanted on charges of:
– Armed Robbery using a Firearm
– Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
– Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized

Buboire has been described as  Indigenous, 5’4” in height and 134 lbs in weight with a medium build. She has green-coloured eyes and may have red or brown-coloured hair.

Update:
Winnipeg Police Service located Buboire at a residence in the Norwood East area and safely took her into custody on August 23rd at approximately 10:00pm.
