Update Mohammed Cortes Torres charged in the 2022 Vancouver fatal stabbing of Naseb Fazil

VPD responded to the report of a fight that broke out on the street between a large group near SW Marine Drive and Hudson Street near the Gallery Vancouver club on May 23rd at approximately 3:30am.

Police located a 19-year-old male victim suffering from stab wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

A 24-year-old man was arrested and remains in custody. Police have not released what charges he may be facing.

Update May 31st
Vancouver police have identified the victim as Naseb Fazil, 19.

“Surveillance footage from a nearby business shows there were numerous people in the area at the time Naseb Fazil was killed,” says Constable Tania Visintin. “We need those people to call police and provide investigators with any information they have. We particularly want to speak with anyone who has cell phone video that may have captured the incident.”

Vancouver police announced on May, 2nd 2023 that the investigation led to the arrest of Mohammed Cortes Torres, 25, who was arrested Sunday has now been charged with second-degree murder.

Cortes Torres was a Surrey resident at the time of the homicide. Police believe he was more recently staying on Vancouver Island.
