Update victim identified in Vancouver’s 15th homicide – Human remains found in a recycling bin, floating in the water at Kits Point

The Canadian Coast Guard recovered the bin after multiple reports came from people in the water at Kits Point on October 18th at approximately 11:00am.

Vancouver police along side the BC Coroners’ Service determined the remains to be human.

“We are asking property managers for multi-dwelling buildings and local residents to check their recycling and garbage rooms to see if any large, bluebins, with wheels on the bottom are missing,” says Constable Tania Visintin.

Investigators are asking anyone who observed a blue recycling bin floating in the water to call the VPD Major Crime Section at 604-717-2500.

Update October 30th
Vancouver Police have identified the victim in the city’s 15th homicide as 57-year-old Douglas Wanke of Vancouver.
