Update: Victim Identified as Akhir Haywood – Two people charged in Toronto’s 15th homicide of the year

Toronto police responded to a radio call for a shooting at a plaza in the Morningside Avenue and Kingston Road area at 5:13pm on February 28th.

Police and paramedics arrived to find a man suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronouced deceased. Police said with the assistance of the public, they located a vehicle and a man and woman were arrested.

Jasiah Mekhie Steve Edwards, 18, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:
1. Second Degree Murder
2. Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
3. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a motor vehicle
4. Possession of a Loaded Firearm

 Jalesha Edwards, 31, of Toronto, was arrested and she was charged with:
1. Second Degree Murder
2. Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
3. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a motor vehicle
4. Possession of a Loaded Firearm

The victim has been identified as Akhir Haywood, 22, of Toronto.

Homicide investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in determining the victim’s whereabouts leading up to his death. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Kevin Cote from Homicide Squad.
