Two Inmates Charged with Second-Degree Murder After Fatal Stabbing at Stony Mountain Institution on October 1

Stonewall RCMP were called to investigate a suspicious death at Stony Mountain Institution, located in the Rural Municipality of Rockwood on October 1, 2025, at approximately 10:10 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an inmate who had suffered apparent stab wounds. The victim, a 27-year-old man from Wasagamack, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the investigation, Evander Brightnose, 26, of Cross Lake, and Theodore Anderson, 22, of Winnipeg, have both been charged with second-degree murder.
