Two charged with first-degree murder in connection with the disappearance of a Sturgeon Lake First Nation man

Barry Goodswimmer, 51, was reported missing from the Sturgeon Lake, Alberta area on June 16th.

39-year-old Harlin Martineau and 22-year-old Allan Hamelin, both of Sturgeon Lake, have been charged with first degree murder, kidnapping and assault with a weapon. Hamelin and Martineau have been placed into custody for a court appearance on June 24, 2019 at Grande Prairie Provincial Court.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and the body of Barry Goodswimmer has yet to be recovered. Anyone with information is asked to call the Valleyview RCMP at 780-524-3343.

Update July 9th
Bary Goodswimmer’s remains were found on June 30, 2019 in a rural location near the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation. No further information will be released as this matter is now before the courts.
