Police say the shooting occurred just after 4 p.m. on Thursday February 5th, near the intersection of Lawrence Avenue East and Bellamy Road North.
Emergency crews arrived to find the teen suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to hospital with serious injuries but later died. The suspect fled the area before police arrived. The victim has been identified as Kian Sam, 16.
Toronto police confirmed later in the evening that Sam had succumbed to his injuries, and the Homicide Unit has since taken over the investigation. A heavy police presence remained in the area as officers continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Update: On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, a male youth, 15, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of a Loaded Regulated Firearm
- Second Degree Murder
- Possession of a Firearm without Holding a License
