Update October 24th 2026: Shardanae Cousins-Emily, 24, has been sentenced to life in prison for the second-degree murder of three-year-old Yverson Belotte Junior, known as Quintanni or Quinn. During sentencing, Justice Kelly Byrne became so emotional while describing the child’s death that she briefly left the courtroom.
Quinn was in Cousins-Emily’s care when she brutally beat him to death in a washroom at a Toronto Children’s Aid Society facility on December 2, 2023. She later took him home and called 911 the following day.
The judge ordered that Cousins-Emily must serve at least 18 years before becoming eligible for parole, citing the extreme cruelty of the killing and her failure to take responsibility.
