Toronto police responded to the report of a stabbing at Allen Gardens on October 5th at 10:38pm.

On arrival police located Kassa Tesfaye, 46, of Toronto, suffering from stabbing injuries. The victim was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Police said a group of people were hanging out in the park when they were approached by a man who walked up to the group and stabbed Kassa Tesfaye.

Police are searching for a suspect who has been described as Male, Black, 5’8″, 20s, who fled the area toward Jarvis.

Update: On October 11th 2022, police announced that Sabir Haredo, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

Update May 4th 2026:
The fatal stabbing of Tesfaye Kassa in Toronto’s Allan Gardens led to a trial shaped by two opposing accounts. Prosecutors argued that Sabir Haredo planned the killing in advance as revenge for being bullied, pointing to alleged threats he made beforehand and evidence showing he approached Kassa with a knife. They described the attack as deliberate and unprovoked, intended to assert dominance.

The defence countered that Haredo acted in self-defence, citing a history of conflict and his claim that Kassa had threatened and lunged at him with a knife. After weighing both versions, the jury acquitted Haredo of first-degree murder. He remains in custody on separate charges.
