Toronto police responded to call for a Check Address in the Weston Road and Black Creek Drive area on Thursday, June 27, 2024.

Police said biological remains and chemicals were located in the apartment. TPS Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear team and the TFS Hazmat team attended the scene to safely remove the chemicals. Testing by Ontario Forensic Pathology Services confirmed the biological remains to be human.

The deceased has been identified as Selvin Paz Mejia, 40, of Honduras.

On Thursday, July 25, 2024, Mariana Aburto Hernandez, 22, was arrested and charged with:

After further investigation, on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, she was additionally charged with:

2. First Degree Murder
