Toronto Homicide #17 – Man dies of a stab wound in an elevator of a Toronto apartment building

Toronto police were called to a Community Housing building near Gordonridge Place and Danforth Road at approximately 7:50 am on April 20th.

Police arrived to find a man suffering from a stab wound in the elevator. Paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. No other information has been made available at this time.

Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation.

Update April 25th
Toronto police have identified the victim as Joel Newby, 23, of Toronto. An autopsy was conducted on April 22 and determined the cause of death to be stab wounds. Police have identified the suspect as Joshua Bewley, 27, of Toronto. Bewley has been described as 6’1″ to 6’2″, with a slim build. He was wearing a navy blue jacket and dark-coloured pants. He is wanted for first degree murder.
