Sûreté du Québec responded to a home on Chemin Payette around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, November 11th, where they discovered a 73-year-old woman critically injured. She was rushed to the hospital but sadly succumbed to her wounds a short time later.

Investigators quickly apprehended her 14-year-old grandson, who was found after crashing his grandmother’s vehicle nearby. The teen was initially charged with attempted murder during a court appearance on Tuesday, just hours before his grandmother’s passing.

Update: The teen’s charge was upgraded to second-degree murder; however, according to reports, the judge ordered the youth to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
