Burnaby RCMP received a report of a motor vehicle incident in the 8000-block of Barnet Highway, on November 16th, involving a 2017 charcoal grey Kia Sorento.

Police and paramedics arrived to find an injured man and woman in the vehicle. Both victims were taken to hospital where the male victim is expected to recover. The female victim, who has been identified as 34-year-old Nicole Hasselmann died of her injuries. Police said Hasselmann’s injuries are ” indicative of foul play”.

Update December 3rd
Jan Poepl, 31, was arrested on November 29th and later charged with second degree murder in connection with the death of 34-year-old Nicole Hasselmann.
