Update: Suspect Arrested in Texas in Connection with 2021 Attack of Elnaz Hajtamiri

On January 12, 2022, Elnaz Hajtamiri was forcibly taken from her Trailwood Place residence at around 8:30 p.m. by three armed men in balaclavas and wearing fake police vests.

They all fled the scene with Hajtamiri in a stolen white Lexus RX SUV.

Following an investigation, OPP charged Hajtamiri’s ex-boyfriend, Mohamad Lilo, with attempted murder and attempted kidnapping in an altercation that occurred in the parking lot of her Richmond Hill apartment building Dec. 21, 2021, where Hajtamiri suffered a head injury.

So far, four people have been charged in connection with Hajtamiri’s January 12 kidnapping, including Lilo.

On November 9th 2023, OPP announced that Lilo is now facing a first-degree murder charge.

Update October 3rd 2025: Detectives from York Regional Police’s Major Crimes Bureau, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Austin Police Department, have arrested a suspect in Texas connected to a violent assault on Elnaz Hajtamiri in Richmond Hill in December 2021.

On December 20, 2021, officers were called to an underground parking garage near Yonge Street and Bantry Avenue, where a woman had been attacked and hit with a frying pan. The attackers fled the scene in a vehicle. The victim, 37-year-old Elnaz Hajtamiri, was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.

In 2022, police arrested and charged four individuals in relation to the attack, including Hajtamiri’s former boyfriend, Mohamad Lilo. He was taken into custody by York Regional Police and the Ontario Provincial Police, and charged with attempted murder and attempted kidnapping. Three more suspects were arrested in 2023.

As the investigation progressed, with help from the public and media, authorities identified another suspect, 25-year-old Sukhpreet Singh of Mississauga. A Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued for him.

On August 19, 2025, Singh was arrested in Texas by the U.S. Marshals Service. He was extradited to York Region on September 30, 2025, and has since been charged with aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. He is currently in custody.

Just weeks after the initial assault, Hajtamiri was reported kidnapped. On January 12, 2022, she was abducted around 8:30 p.m. from a home in Wasaga Beach by three individuals disguised as police officers. They were last seen driving a white Lexus RX SUV. This kidnapping case remains under investigation by York Regional Police and the OPP.

A $100,000 reward is being offered for any information that leads to locating Elnaz Hajtamiri. Anyone with information is urged to contact the York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7241.
