The 2025 Nova Scotia Homicide Victim List is available here
The incident occurred on March 28, 2025, around 3:30 a.m., when Queens District RCMP and Emergency Health Services (EHS) responded to a weapons-related call at a residence on Highway 3 in Mill Village. When officers arrived, they found an elderly man suffering from life-threatening stab wounds. The suspect had already left the scene by vehicle.
The victim was rushed to hospital by paramedics. A few hours later, around 7:45 a.m., police located and arrested 60-year-old Derek Dominix at his residence in Voggler’s Cove without incident. He was initially charged with Attempt to Commit Murder and held in custody.
On April 11, after over two weeks in the hospital, the victim died from his injuries. The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide, confirming it was the result of intimate partner violence.
As a result, the RCMP upgraded Dominix’s charge to Second-Degree Murder on April 22. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court on May 15, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.
The Nova Scotia RCMP urges anyone facing intimate partner violence or at risk of it, to seek help. Support services are available province-wide and can be accessed by dialing 211 or calling 1-855-225-0220.
