According to the Longueuil Agglomeration Police Service (SPAL), officers responded around 11 p.m. to reports of gunfire and a man wounded by a firearm.

“Shots had been reported, along with a man injured by gunfire,” said SPAL spokesperson Sgt. Marie Beauvais.

Cédrick Bélizaire, 27, was rushed to hospital in critical condition, but he succumbed to his injuries overnight.

Known to police, Bélizaire was reportedly involved in an ongoing conflict between two rival gangs from northeast Montreal. According to LaPresse, on the street, he was known by the nickname “Ballout” and was considered a member of the Pop Team gang, based in Montreal North. He had previous run-ins with the law, including charges related to pimping.

Police continue to investigate the shooting, which is believed to be linked to the broader gang rivalry in the region.
